    Mr. John Hardy
    Personnel Manager
    Needless Markup Inc.
    Las Vegas, Nevada 89999

    Dear Mr. Hardy:

I am delighted to respond to your advertisement (Las Vegas Review Journal,
May 25) for the summer internship program sponsored by Needless Markup. The
program particularly appeals to me as I am very interested in gaining some
practical work experience. I also enjoy meeting and working with people.

I am currently a student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, majoring in
Underwater Basketweaving. My enclosed resume shows my current overall grade point
average of 3.7 out of a possible 4.0. My resume also reveals my participation in
extracurricular activities both in college and high school.

If my application merits an interview, please write or call (555-3333). I look
    forward to meeting you.

    Sincerely,

    Taylor Night
  2. There should be one blank line between each paragraph. Leave one blank line
between each of the parts of the letter except between the closing (Sincerely)
and the letter writer’s name. You should leave 3-4 blank lines between these two
    parts of the letter.
  3. Replace the date of the letter with the due date for the assignment. Replace
Underwater Basketweaving with the name of your major (choose one for this letter,
if you are undecided). Change the phone number in the last paragraph to your own.
  4. Underline the name of the newspaper (Las Vegas Review Journal). Italicize the
date of the advertisement (May 25).
  5. Replace the name at the close of the letter with your own. Add a line below it
with the assignment number and section number.
  6. Set the left and right margins so that they are 1˝ inches wide. Make sure the
top margin is 2 inches wide. (Page Setup option in File menu)
  7. Use the tab feature to indent the first three lines (address and date) 3
inches from the left margin. Indent the closing, letter writer’s name, and
assignment/section number so that those lines are also 3 inches from the left
margin (4 ˝" from the left edge of the page).
